Sonoma county vegetation and habitat mapping program

Hi, Do you have the watershed polygons available for download? I would like to use them for clipping rasters generated from your LiDAR data. Hello, I am a Ph. These data providing great support for my research. Thanks for you and your colleagues shared these high-quality and detailed data.

Now,I am preparing a paper about my research. I wonder if you allow me to use these data and vegetation survey data for research and publication. If you permit,I will officially acknowledge the sources of these data in my paper. I'd be look forward to your reply. Sincerely yours, Bingxiao Wu. Bingxiao: Thanks for your message. No problem for to use the data with acknowledgement. Thanks for asking. Best of luck! Hi, I'm wondering if you or anyone else has created a stream layer from your hydro-flattened DEM?

As the NHD stream lines are quite inaccurate, this would be a great service to a number of groups. Hi Cleo: We are in the process of preparing a number of hydrologic data products for for public distribution. These will include a stream centerline vector layer, watersheds, flow accumulation and flow direction rasters, and a hydro-enforced DEM. All of these datasets will be derived from the LiDAR. We hope to have these data products available on this web site in the next two weeks. It's been more than two weeks, and I can't seem to find the hydrologic data on this site.

Is there an updated timeline, or am I looking in the wrong place? We've asked our contractor to do a second round of revisions on the hydrologic data deliverables. They are in the process of completing the revisions and we expect to have final datasets posted by the end of the month. Hi Cleo: LiDAR derived stream centerline thalwags are now available on the data downloads page of this web site.

Any chance the orthos will be available with a clip tool? It would be great to avoid the SIDS headache. They used to be available in jp2 tiles from the usgs website, but now all they have are 1 meter resolution tiles. Jason - if you are still listening! Benefits and Applications The benefits of LiDAR for land and water management, planning and engineering are wide ranging.

The following discussion demonstrates some of these benefits as they apply to Sonoma County. Forest structure metrics can be combined with forest plot data to produce accurate models of forest biomass and aboveground carbon sequestration.

Mapping vegetation involves developing a classification of the county's vegetation types, interpreting aerial photographs and imagery using human interpreters and computer algorithms, and verifying vegetation characteristics in the field. One major application of this data is to target danger trees for removal. If a danger tree falls in the direction of a high voltage line, it could hit and damage the line or start a wildfire. Floodplain Mapping, Flood and Tsunami Inundation Modeling Highly accurate digital elevation data is a prerequisite for accurate floodplain mapping and flood inundation modeling from river flooding, tsunami, or storm surge.

It provides low cost loans that pay for the system; the homeowner or business owner pays the loan back as part of their property taxes. LiDAR data provides very accurate roof pitch and roof aspect information for entire areas, as well as information that can be used to predict roof shadedness.

Field work to develop a vegetation classification for Sonoma County was conducted in and LiDAR and aerial photography were acquired in late and are now available; vegetation and habitat mapping was completed in A list of map and data products is shown in the full list of data products. Technology Advisers The Vegetation Mapping and Remote Sensing Advisory Committee , comprised of 15 experts in remote sensing, GIS, vegetation mapping, and technology, advises the mapping team on technical issues and the keeps the team up to speed on the newest mapping methods and technologies.
