I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials successfully on a Windows 8. The laptop was in a pristine state - clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 32bit from original DVD, fully updated to SP1 with all patches and hotfixes, and with no other malware or spyware or anti-virus programs installed. It was clean as a whistle and I was logged in as Administrator.
I downloaded MSE directly from the Microsoft website so there was no file corruption. There were no viruses or spyware or malware on the computer.
I reinstalled the computer twice as described above, and both times MSE trashed Windows Update service.
